Contract awarded for Marine Corps Reserve Center at WPAFB Published July 1, 2008 By Derek Kaufman WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio -- Defense Department officials announced June 30 that Butt Construction Co. of Dayton, Ohio, was awarded a $9.41 million firm-fixed price contract for design and construction of a Marine Corps Reserve Training Center here. The work to be performed provides for the design and construction of two buildings, including an administrative facility of approximately 36,200 square feet and a supporting vehicle maintenance facility, sized at just over 2,600 sq. ft., said Patrick Curren, program manager with the 88th Air Base Wing Civil Engineer directorate. The construction is to take place in Area A near State Route 444 at Gate 15A. Air Force and Navy officials must next review and approve the contractor's detailed construction and design plans in advance of an anticipated ground breaking in the September 2008 time frame, Curren said. Work should be complete by early 2010. The contract was competitively negotiated via the Navy Electronic Commerce Online Website with five proposals received. The Naval Facilities Engineering Command, Midwest, Great Lakes, Ill., is the contracting activity. The new facility will replace one built in 1958 at 410 North Gettysburg Avenue, Dayton. The facility will be used by Military Police Company C, Headquarters Battalion, Fourth Service Support Group, Marine Forces Reserve.
