Base exercise will include night operations Published Aug. 6, 2008 By Derek Kaufman 88th Air Base Wing Public Affairs WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio -- Base officials will conduct an Operational Readiness Exercise here Aug. 13 - 15. Most of the exercise activity will take place at Wright Patterson's PRIME BEEF training area, a wooded training site located adjacent to the Huffman Prairie Flying Field. Most exercise events will be transparent to the general public, however this exercise will be unique in that evaluators plan night operations on Aug 14, to include a shift change over early the morning of Aug. 15, said Maj. Jason Jackson, 88th Air Base Wing chief of installation readiness & exercises. Airmen will participate in pre-deployment processing on Wednesday, Aug. 13, then "deploy" to the forward operating area where they will react to a variety of situations to prepare them to excel in real world contingency operations. People living on base, or off base near the Huffman Dam and Twin Base Golf Course areas may hear occasional announcements from loudspeakers and muffled booms from ground burst simulators coming from the training area. Customers of some base agencies may experience delays due to the number of Airmen participating in the exercise. About 200 Airmen are slated to train. "We really do appreciate everyone's cooperation and support," Jackson said. "Operational Readiness Exercises are a vital component of our deployment readiness training for the real-world fight, as well as spin-up for our Operational Readiness Inspection next year."
