WPAFB to conduct free child seat safety checks for base employees

Motor vehicle crashes remain the leading cause of death for children in the U.S., but many deaths and serious injuries can be prevented through the proper use of child safety seats. Base officials are teaming with Chrysler to host free SeatCheck child safety seat inspections for base employees, Friday, Oct. 24, from 1 - 5 p.m. at the North Child Development Center, building 630, Area B here.

Trained safety seat technicians will be on hand to demonstrate proper seat installation and common mistakes made by parents when buckling their children in. There will also be activities to entertain children. The event is for base employees, family members and retirees with base access. It is not open to the general public. Since space is limited, pre-registration is recommended by calling Vivian Gadson at (937) 255-6254.

The 88th Air Base Wing Safety Office and 88th Services Division Family Member Programs Flight are teaming to host the event, in cooperation with sponsor, Chrysler Corporation.

"Every year children tragically die and suffer preventable injuries because their child safety seats were not properly installed," said Jennifer Spurgin, chief of Family Member Programs. "We appreciate Chrysler's support to inform parent's on the do's and don'ts to help keep our kids safe."

Seat Check is a national public safety campaign to help parents properly secure their children in motor vehicles. For more information check out www.seatcheck.org or call 1-866-SEAT-CHECK.  No federal endorsement of sponsor intended.
