Capt. Kilowatt and his trusty sidekick Wrighty have been resurrected to highlight ways to save energy.

First created by base energy program officials and the graphics shop more than 10 years ago, the comic book-like cartoon characters feature a superhero named Capt. Kilowatt and a small, grey fighter aircraft bearing a friendly smile.

The duo -- often featured in the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base Skywrighter newspaper -- offer easy, but effective methods to promote conservation of natural resources and reduce energy costs.

Base civil engineer Dennis Mattson and current energy program manager Gavin Jones thought the time was right to reintroduce the characters to "highlight small things that collectively can make a big impact in energy savings,"  Jones said.

"We want to develop a conservation mindset in the Wright-Patt workforce, not only because we are operating in a constrained budget environment, but because it's the right thing to do," Jones said.

Capt. Kilowatt and Wrighty will complement "Spacy's Green Tip of the Day,"
named after 88th Air Base Wing and installation commander Col. Brad Spacy, a column which will encourage Earth-friendly activities like recycling.
