Gate 19B to close during National Road resurfacing Published April 14, 2009 WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio -- A resurfacing project beginning April 20 will require closing National Road between Col. Glenn Highway and Kauffman Road for approximately 3 to 4 weeks. Gate 22B will serve as the 24 hour access point for Area B during the period that Gate 19B will be inaccessible. The road will be completely closed during the resurfacing project because a technique called rubbleizing makes it unsafe to drive on. "They will remove all the asphalt and crush the old concrete road below until it resembles gravel," said Fred Tito, 88 Civil Engineer Division design manager. "That rubbleized concrete will serve as the new foundation for the road." Extra guards will be positioned at Gates 22B and 1B to facilitate the increased traffic flow caused by the closure of Gate 19B. Nonetheless, delays are likely. "We ask that everyone plan their commute accordingly and please be patient," Mr. Tito said.
