Damage to natural gas line causes temporary traffic restrictions near WPAFB Published July 23, 2009 By Derek Kaufman 88th Air Base Wing Public Affairs WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio -- Traffic movement in the vicinity of base Gate 26C at State Route 235 in Fairborn is being rerouted Thursday afternoon after a natural gas line was damaged by a backhoe performing construction in the vicinity of the west aircraft parking ramp here. There is a gas leak but no fire. Wright-Patterson Fire Department is on scene and is coordinating with Dayton Vectren officials to turn off flow to the natural gas pipe that was damaged shortly before 5 p.m. The public is advised to use alternate routes and avoid Route 235 in Fairborn for this evening's commute until the situation is resolved. The incident is under investigation.
