Base officials have released the latest available figures which reveal Wright-Patterson's total economic impact to the Dayton region exceeds $4.4 billion.

The 2008 Base Economic Impact Analysis shows a total of 25,713 military, civilian and contractor employees, an increase of almost 900 compared to 2007 numbers.

"This document illustrates that economic growth on the base is robust and radiating throughout the Miami Valley," said Col. Bradley Spacy, 88th Air Base Wing commander. "This is great news for the region."

The entire report, which incorporates data as of Sept. 2008, is posted on the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base Public Web page in the Library section at http://www.wpafb.af.mil/shared/media/document/AFD-090824-008.pdf

"While we may be situated behind a fence, we work hard to make that fence as invisible as possible," said Colonel Spacy, commenting on Wright-Patt's operational transparency.

According to the analysis, the local community definition for the 2008 analysis includes Clark, Greene, Miami, Montgomery and Preble counties.
