Dr. John Rogers, chair professor at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign and co-researcher for two AFOSR MURI programs, was recently awarded the MacArthur Fellowship.

The MacArthur Fellowship, a five-year grant awarded to people of outstanding talent, is designed to provide seed money for intellectual, social, and artistic endeavors and it gives the nominated recipients the flexibility to pursue their creative activities in the absence of specific obligations or reporting requirements.

Rogers, who has worked in basic research areas of nanotechnology and chemical engineering, was given this fellowship for his notable contributions to applied physics and leadership in developing flexible electronic devices.

His ground-breaking research has both revolutionized the manufacturing of industrial, consumer and biocompatible electronics and has been instrumental in earning him this well-deserved, prestigious award.

Rogers is one of many researchers who has contributed in some way -- large or small -- to the success of the MURI program. AFOSR is pleased with the caliber of research and teams of researchers associated with these multidisciplinary efforts and congratulates Rogers on his accomplishment.
