Dr. Boris Tomasic, of the Air Force Research Laboratory Sensors Directorate, earned the 2009 Air Force Science and Engineering Award for Exploratory or Advanced Technology Development. The award recognizes noteworthy achievements in applied research or advanced technology development, with emphasis on improving technology readiness levels, transitioning technology into acquisition programs, and/or direct-fielding technology to operational forces. Dr. Tomasic was an early and influential pioneer in conformal antenna arrays, a technology now at the forefront of today's military development work. His most recent significant contributions involve the invention, development, and transition of the Geodesic Dome Phased-Array Antenna.  The GDPAA advanced technolgy development program, which underwent successful conclusion within recent months, will increase the capacity, reliability, and effectiveness of satellite tracking stations, thereby enabling the Air Force Satellite Control Network to better cope with the demands associated with escalating numbers of satellites.
