Members of the Air Force Research Laboratory Propulsion Directorate's Energy/Power/Thermal Division, Energy and Power Systems Branch earned recognition in the form of the Aeronautical Systems Center's 2nd Quarter C-130J Joint Rapid Action Team Award. The honor acknowledges their contributions towards a timely and fully successful diagnostics and testing process that ultimately determined the cause of wiring burn-through and cabin smoke associated with aircraft lighting system transformers. To avoid the extensive time and funding normally required for problem investigation by a system prime contractor, the team constructed a test circuit to conduct fault simulations and thereby verified the research hypotheses. Within a short period of time, their newly established process had identified the root cause and they had provided recommended corrective actions to the end user. Team members included Mr. Brett Jordan and Dr. Russell Spyker (AFRL Propulsion Directorate) and support contractor Ms. Laura Lyle (Universal Energy Systems, Inc.).
