There is a new way to stay on top of happenings at Wright-Patterson now that the base has a presence on Facebook, the popular social media website.

"The site will allow the base to share more news, photos and videos with families and friends of people that work on the base, and others with an interest in what goes on behind the fence," said Josh Aycock, Wright-Patterson spokesman. "We produce a lot of photos and videos that are too big to be e-mailed, but will work nicely on our Facebook page."

In addition to dynamic content, the site allows the base to quickly distribute messages to it's "fans."

"We can shoot out quick messages when we have events happening that would interest people on or near the base," Aycock said. "It will also be a good way for families of base personnel that aren't near the base to keep up with their loved ones and for deployed members to keep connected to the base."

The page is listed as a government site under the title Wright-Patterson AFB. Although Facebook is not accessible from the base network, everyone is encouraged to register as a "fan" from their personal computer accounts.

"We see this as a great opportunity to reach a brand new audience," Aycock said. "Anything that helps increase public awareness and understanding of the base is a win-win scenario."

The easiest way to find the page is to go to Facebook and search for "Wright-Patterson AFB," Aycock added.
