Dr. Candace Lynch, a research scientist with the Air Force Research Laboratory, Sensors Directorate, Electromagnetics Technology Division, received the Dr. Samuel M. Burka Scientific Achievement Award at the Sensors Directorate Annual Awards Banquet held January 21st at the Wright-Patt Club.

The Burka Award, which commemorates Dr. Burka's remarkable career in aerial photography and navigation science at McCook Field and Wright-Patterson AFB, is given annually by the more than 700-person Sensors Directorate for the most significant scientific accomplishment of the year.

Dr. Lynch was selected for her pioneering Gallium Arsenide crystal growth research that enables new laser technologies for infrared countermeasures.

Dr David Jerome, Director of the Sensors Directorate, welcomed the more than 300 directorate members, alumni, and invited guests that had gathered to recognize 2009's stellar group of award nominees. He recognized our Air Force-level award winners who nearly "swept" some categories of this year's awards, and stressed we are all proud of the accomplishments of the nominees of this year's Directorate awards.
