Marathon and Beyond selected the top 25 medals among U.S. marathon finisher's medals for 2009. Marathon and Beyond described the Air Force Marathon medal as, "classy medals that change airplane designs each year and are made with the same high standards we have come to expect from our heroes in uniform." The 2009 Air Force Marathon commemorative finisher's medal featured the Global Hawk, which is a high-altitude, long-endurance, unmanned aerial reconnaissance system. "Our medals feature Dayton's aviation history and the innovation of the Air Force. We are excited to announce the B-52 Stratofortress for this year's commemorative finisher's medal," said Molly Louden, race director. The medals were voted on by a panel of 11 veteran marathoners, who have run more than 2,250 between them. Award criteria included the overall look of the medal, the year and date clearly visible, size of each race medal, and overall quality. "The Air Force Marathon is the world's only air and space power marathon that features a commemorative aircraft on the medal each year. We congratulate our finisher's with Air Force Senior Leaders presenting them with their medal. We are very proud of this award and congratulate the other medal award winners," said Louden . The Air Force Marathon presented by Northrop Grumman, USAA and Boeing will be held September 18, 2010 at the National Museum of the United States Air Force. Other events include a half marathon and 10K to be held on the 18th. Wright State University and the Air Force Marathon will co-host a 5K run on September 17, 2010 at the Ervin J. Nutter Center.
