Refinery fire directs evacuation of nearby Brooks City-Base Published May 5, 2010 By Joe Wiggins 311th Air Base Group Public Affairs BROOKS CITY-BASE, Texas -- A large fire at a fuel refinery in south San Antonio resulted in the precautionary evacuation of all Air Force and Department of Defense personnel from nearby Brooks City-Base. The evacuation order is per the direction of the Bexar County Emergency Operations Center, and was coordinated with Col. Harry Kimberly, commander of the 311th Air Base Group at Brooks. There are no known injuries reported at Brooks City-Base as a result of the fire at the AEG refinery. Base officials said reporting instructions for base employees tomorrow will be relayed to and reported through San Antonio-area news media. The U.S. Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine is among the many units located at Brooks.
