USAF Marathon Saturday road and gate closures

As previously reported in the base Skywrighter, this year's Air Force Marathon will bring 12,000 runners to the Dayton region Sept. 17  - 18.  Running of the Marathon, Half-Marathon and 10K race on Saturday, Sept. 18 will necessitate a number of gate and road closures on and in the vicinity of the base.

Marathon officials remind runners to anticipate delays early Saturday morning and to plan to arrive well in advance of race time.
 
The following gate and road closure times and locations are provided so that all motorists in the area can plan accordingly.

Areas A & C:

Gate 12A: Closes at 6 a.m., reopens at noon.

Gate 9A: Opens at 6 a.m., closes at noon 

General access to Areas A&C roads: All roads affected by the Air Force Marathon routes will close at 6 a.m. The following will reopen at approximately noon:
· Kuglics Ave.
· Chidlaw Rd.
· Metzger Dr.
· LahmCircle
· Yount Dr.
· Breene at Talbott
· Estabrook at Talbott
· Pearson Ave.
· Wright Ave.
· Buckner
· Allbrook Ave.

The following will reopen at approximately 1 p.m.:
· Skeel Ave.
· Loop Rd.
· Douglas Rd.
· Mitchell Rd.
· Riverview Rd.
· Marl Rd.
· Pylon Rd.
· Hebble Creek

Off Base Roads:
· Fairborn streets: all closed to traffic 5 to 10 a.m.
· SR444 atGate 1C (Broad Street) to Main St.
· Main St.
· Pleasant Ave.
· Xenia Ave.
· Grand Ave.
· SR 444 (Westbound) - from Twin Base Golf Course entrance Closed 8 to 9:30 a.m.

Other off-base roads: closed 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.:
· Route 844
· KauffmanAve (at Old Col. Glenn Hwy) to SR 444
· Wright State Rd.
· University Blvd.
· Springfield Street (eastbound)

Area B:
· Gate 19B: Open (24hrs) - NO RUNNERS ENTRY (even with base access).  For use by Saturday workers, fire/emergency, volunteers, ONLY.
· Gate 22B, Spinning Rd Gate, ArmoryGate: 5 a.m. to 3 p.m. - RUNNERS ONLY Roads: All roads in Area B affected by the Air Force Marathon will be closed at 6 a.m. until 10 a.m.
· Loop Rd.
· Hobson
· 10th Street
· Skyline Ave.
· C Street
· 9th Street

Only closure exception in Area B is Loop Rd/C St. to Gate 1B until 3 p.m.

**Anyone reporting to work Sept. 18 should review the road closure and course maps to plan in advance a suitable route to their place of work.
