Air Force accepting public comment on 445th Airlift Wing conversion to C-17

  • Published
The Air Force will accept comments through Jan. 3, 2011 on the Environmental Assessment for the 445th Airlift Wing conversion from C-5 Galaxy to C-17 Globemaster aircraft.

The Air Force is proposing to issue a Finding of No Significant Impact/Finding of No Practicable Alternative (FONSI/FONPA) based on the Environmental Assesment. The analysis considered potential effects of the Proposed Action and the No Action Alternative on thirteen resource areas: airspace management, land use, air quality, noise, geology and soil, water resources, biological resources, cultural resources, socioeconomic resources, environmental justice, infrastructure, health and safety, and hazardous materials/hazardous wastes.

The results, as found in the Environmental Assessment, show that the Proposed Action would not have an adverse impact on the environment -- indicating that a FONSI would be appropriate. In addition, as found in the Environmental Assessment, there are no practicable alternatives to the Proposed Action and negligible impacts to the floodplain -- indicating a FONPA would be appropriate. An Environmental Impact Statement should not be necessary to implement the Proposed Action.

The public is invited to review the documents at the Greene County Public Library, Fairborn Branch, located at 1 East Main Street, Fairborn, OH 45324-4701, (937)878-9383.
