AFRL Air Vehicles Directorate announces annual award winners

WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio --  The Air Force Research Laboratory Air Vehicles Directorate celebrated its best and brightest at the 45th annual Air Vehicles Awards Luncheon, held Jan. 12 at the Wright-Patterson Club and Banquet Center.

Col. Michael Hatfield, Air Vehicles Materiel Group Director and outgoing Air Vehicles Deputy Director Douglas Blake welcomed guests and introduced nominees. Dr. Paul Bevilaqua, chief engineer of Advanced Development Projects for the Lockheed Martin Skunk Works, served as guest speaker.

Air Vehicles chief scientist Dr. Donald Paul announced the directorate's top technical awards, the General Benjamin D. Foulois Award and the Dr. Courtland D. Perkins Award.
This year's recipients of the Foulois Award are Dr. David Doman and Dr. Michael Oppenheimer, for their research into flapping-wing Micro Air Vehicle control.

Perkins Award winners are David Adamczak and Dr. Roger Kimmel for their research resulting in the successful demonstration of affordable hypersonic flight testing techniques.
