At a Glance: AFMC Freedom's Call Tattoo 2010 Published June 10, 2010 Air Force Materiel Command Public Affairs WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio -- With just two weeks remaining until Air Force Materiel Command Freedom's Call Tattoo 2010, here's a quick snapshot of what to know and where to go before taking to the roads to enjoy this spectacular family event. This year's theme of 'Reflections on 60 Years' commemorates and honors veterans from the Korean War. Part of the program also includes the swearing in of new Air Force recruits and honoring a special World War II veteran. WHERE: Grounds of the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio WHEN: June 25, 2010 ADMISSION: Free and open to the public TIMELINE OF EVENTS: 4 p.m. - Gates open 4 - 10 p.m. - Food and vendor concessions open 5 p.m. - Live entertainment by This Side Up 8 p.m. - Tattoo ceremony starts 9 p.m. - Performance by .38 Special 10 p.m. - Fireworks display FEATURED ATTRACTIONS: Aircraft flyovers Scheduled heritage aircraft include the Wright B Flyer, P-51 Mustang, T-6A Texan II and the North American F-86 Sabre. Scheduled military aircraft include the B-52 Stratofortress, KC-135 Stratotanker, B-1B Lancer, B-2 Spirit, F-15 Eagle and the A-10 Thunderbolt II. Musical guests/entertainment Southwest Ohio-based band This Side Up will offer a unique blend of music from all genres that is guaranteed to get the audience singing along and dancing. The 45-member group that makes up the United States Air Force Band of Flight will perform during the Tattoo. This year the Band of Flight is augmented by the U.S. Air Force Band of Liberty and the Air National Guard Band of the Great Lakes. Special guest performer .38 Special will take to the stage with its unique blend of '80s Southern and arena rock. In its second decade, the band's hits included songs "Caught Up in You," "Hold on Loosely," "If I'd Been the One" and "Rockin' into the Night." On the grounds Stop by the child-friendly family fun zone featuring giant inflatables, and visit Air Force recruiters with their Command Center Alpha -- a full virtual reality simulator with full-size F-16 model -- and SUV. Go for a ride in an F-16 or Wright B Flyer simulator when visiting the Technology Exposition Tent. The tent includes exhibits from AFMC, 88th Air Base Wing, Air Force Research Laboratory, the Air Force Museum, the 516th Aeronautical Systems Wing, 77 ASW, 303 ASW, 312 ASW and the 711th Human Performance Wing. Head in to the Verizon tent or visit with celebrities from WHIO and K99.1. ENTRY: General public can enter through gates at the intersection of Airway and Spinning roads, the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force entrance on Springfield Street or the Armory Gate on Harshman Road. Base ID cardholders can enter through Gate 22B off of Col. Glenn Highway. PARKING: On museum grounds as directed by security personnel, with handicapped parking available. PARK 'N RIDE: Provided courtesy of Greater Dayton Regional Transit Authority from Parking Lot 20 at Wright State University's Nutter Center. Buses will depart every 10 to 15 minutes beginning at 4 p.m. and run until about 11 p.m. Riders will be allowed to bring lawn chairs and blankets on the buses. ALLOWED ITEMS: Strollers, infant diaper bags, cameras and cases, small purses and pocketbooks are permitted, but subject to inspection. Visitors are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets. PROHIBITED ITEMS: Coolers, fireworks, backpacks, skateboards, in-line skates and glass bottles are prohibited for security reasons.
