Freedom's Call Tattoo tent features Air Force technology with local ties Published June 2, 2011 Air Force Materiel Command Public Affairs Report Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio -- Airpower capabilities and demonstrations will be on full-display at this year's Technology Exposition Tent at the Air Force Materiel Command Freedom's Call Tattoo 2011 on June 24. "The Exposition Tent is one of Tattoo's most popular features," said Dave Egner, Tattoo director. "The interactive setting allows people to get a hands-on, up close look at just a few of the technologies used throughout the Air Force." The seventh annual Tattoo kicks off with gates opening at 4 p.m. on the grounds of the National Museum of the United States Air Force. Tattoo is free and open to the public. This year's air-conditioned, nearly 5,000-square-foot tent will be located in the spectator area and will showcase the technology and displays of about 15 exhibitors. Each exhibit represents technological capabilities developed at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, and used by warfighters throughout the Air Force. Among the organizations that will exhibit their technologies are: Air Force Materiel Command Headquarters; the 88th Air Base Wing; several Aeronautical Systems Center directorates that manage various aircraft and weapon systems; and the Air Force Institute of Technology. "If you like to have fun and learn at the same time then the Technology Tent is the place to go on Tattoo day," said Jim Palmer, Technology Exposition Tent director. "This is a great opportunity to see some of the technology developed right here at Wright-Patterson." This is the Exposition Tent's fourth year as a featured activity area at Freedom's Call Tattoo. Past years' technologies have included everything from a NASA space suit to a full display of an Airman's combat gear, complete with night vision goggles, and even missile and bomb displays In addition to varied entertainment options, like flyovers, stage events and narration, Tattoo attendees will also get a little taste of history. Tattoo 2011's theme of "Defending Liberty ... Home and Abroad" honors the men and women who served their country during Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom, as well as those who continue to serve in today's operations. The night will also include a special tribute recognizing the 10th year since the Sept. 11 attacks.
