Air Force Marathon seeks Lead Volunteer Coordinators for logistics Published March 20, 2012 By Nicole McLaughlin 88ABW/CVM WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio -- If you're highly motivated, flexible, and have a desire to help out, the Air Force Marathon would like to talk to you. The Marathon office is looking for three lead volunteer coordinators for crucial race day logistics positions. These lead volunteers will work in a supervisory capacity, overseeing critical race day functions such as start line set-up and tear down, runner traffic, maintenance and debris disposal, and festival tear-down. Logistics lead volunteers must be available to work from 4:30am to 3:30pm on September 15, 2012, and be willing to attend a couple hours of training, beginning in May. Applications are available on the marathon's website, www.usafmarathon.com, and are being accepted through April 2. "The continued growth and success of the marathon is a wonderful thing," said Jeanette Monaghan, Volunteer Coordinator, "but it means that we must continue to grow our volunteer base as well. Last year we had 29 lead volunteer coordinators, but we've added another 1500 runners this year, so we're beefing up our work force to match." In addition to the 32 lead volunteer coordinator positions, another 2,100 volunteers will step up to the plate in the days preceding the Marathon. "Our volunteers have so much fun that many of them return every year," said Molly Louden, Race Director. "We even have runners who have started coming early to volunteer at the Sports & Fitness Expo!" Regular volunteer positions will be posted online beginning May 1st, and the Marathon staff plans to have all of the lead volunteer coordinator jobs filled by that time. ------------------------------------------- The Air Force Marathon, presented by Northrop Grumman, USAA and Boeing, will be held Sept. 15 at the National Museum of the United States Air Force. The Air Force 5K hosted by Wright State University will be run on Sept. 14 at the Wright State University Nutter Center. The Sports and Fitness Expo will also be held at the Nutter Center on Sept. 13-14.
