Change of command ceremony open to base populace Published May 24, 2012 WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio -- Air Force Materiel Command officials encourage the base's work force to arrive early for the June 5 AFMC Change of Command ceremony at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force. Museum doors will open at 7:30 a.m. Officials request that attendees be seated by 8:40 a.m. Representatives from the 88th Security Forces Squadron will check all installation authorized photo identification. Please note for security reasons, coolers, backpacks, knives and weapons of any kind, to include pepper spray, are not permitted. Strollers, infant diaper bags, cameras and their cases, small purses and pocketbooks are permitted, but subject to inspection. Food and beverage are not permitted in the Museum. AFMC officials suggest that government employees in Area B who normally enter through Gate 1B on Springfield Street avoid that area between 7 a.m. and noon due to increased traffic flow. Alternative entrances to Area B include Gate 19B from National Road or Gate 22B from I-675 at Exit 15. Contractor employees must adhere to their respective contract requirements. Activities begin at 9 a.m., at which time Lt. Gen. Janet Wolfenbarger will be promoted to the rank of general. The promotion will result in General Wolfenbarger becoming the first female four-star officer in Air Force history. She will then become the eighth officer to assume the top position for AFMC, succeeding Gen. Donald Hoffman, during a change of command. The morning will conclude with a retirement ceremony for General Hoffman, who is departing the Air Force after 42 years of service. General Hoffman served as the commander of AFMC since November 2008.
