AFLCMC activation ceremony set for July 20 at AF Museum

WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio -- A ceremony formally marking the activation of the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center will take place 10 a.m. July 20 at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force here.

Gen. Janet Wolfenbarger, commander of Air Force Materiel Command, will officiate the ceremony during which Lt. Gen. C.D. Moore will be formally recognized as the first commander of AFLCMC. Aeronautical Systems Center will become part of the LCMC, and its commander, Lt. Gen. Tom Owen, will retire.

AFMC officials announced in November 2011 plans to consolidate certain missions and activities, reducing the number of its centers from 12 to five. The plan aims to reduce overhead costs and redundant layers of staff and is expected to generate $109 million annually in Air Force savings.

AFLCMC will be headquartered at Wright-Patterson but will have personnel located at some 75 geographically separated locations. It will join the Air Force Sustainment Center, Air Force Test Center, Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center and Air Force Research Laboratory as AFMC transitions from 12 centers to five.
