AIAA Honors AFRL Engineers as 2012 Fellows Published Oct. 19, 2012 By Holly Jordan, AFRL/RQC Aerospace Systems WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio -- AFRL engineers Dr. David Doman and Dr. Miguel Visbal have recently been named AIAA Fellows for their longstanding excellence and service in the field of aerospace. Dr. Doman is a Principal Aerospace Engineer and serves as the Director of the Control Science Center of Excellence. He is an internationally recognized expert in dynamics and controls, and has made significant groundbreaking contributions in space launch vehicles, airbreathing hypersonic vehicles, and unmanned vehicles. Dr. Visbal is a Principal Aerospace Engineer and serves as the Air Vehicles Directorate Team Leader of Multidisciplinary Computational Aerodynamics. He leads an Air Force Office of Scientific Research Star Team that is internationally recognized for pioneering contributions to computational sciences. Dr. Visbal has conducted and led research in the fields of unsteady separation, flow topology, vortex breakdown, flow control, and high-order methods for large-eddy-simulation. Drs. Doman and Visbal were honored at the AIAA Aerospace Spotlight Awards Gala, in May 2012 at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in Washington, D.C. The AIAA has been the premiere society for aerospace engineers and scientists for more than 80 years. It is the world's largest professional society dedicated to the progress of engineering and science in aviation, space, and defense. The AIAA Fellowship is one of the highest honors in the field of aerospace. It is bestowed upon individuals who have made notable and valuable contributions to the arts, sciences, or technology of aeronautics and astronautics.
