Mobile App to help 'guide' military members Published Oct. 26, 2012 By Cindy Holbrook Skywrighter Staff WRIGHT-PATTERSON AFB, Ohio -- Wouldn't it be great to receive a weather report, a listing of the day's activities and directions to important buildings as you travel from base to base? All that and more is possible by accessing a new mobile application that brings the latest guidebook to the user's fingertips and contains editorial information (from each base's last printed guide), advertisements, weather updates and travel information. This new app by MARCOA Publishing is called mybaseguide and can be downloaded within the Apple Store, Google Play and Android Marketplace. The app went live a few weeks ago. "There is not an individual app per base, but with this app you can receive information on any base you type into the selector," said Forrest Smith, director, information technology at MARCOA Publishing Inc. "We plan to release it on Amazon for the Kindle, and it also works on an iPad even though it is an iPhone application. There is tons of information on each base and we've taken all of that from the guides and other resources and placed it in this app," Mr. Smith said. MARCOA Publishing serves 85 percent of domestic United States military installations as the largest and longest established publisher of military base installation guides, telephone directories and maps. The app can be found by searching for MyBaseGuide (MBG) in their respective smart phone stores. The main function of the app is to provide military personnel with useful information for a smooth relocation. In addition it provides pertinent information for the duration of the service members stay at any of the military installations in the United States. The MBG app is a useful tool for families, retirees and contractors who want to keep up-to-date on events free of charge.
