In the 2011-2012 academic year, the U.S. Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine (USAFSAM) graduated twenty-one residents and fellows from its Aerospace and Hyperbaric Medicine programs.

The Aerospace Medicine (AM) program received a three-year accreditation from the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) following a site visit in October 2012. USAFSAM will continue to modify its curriculum to accommodate ACGME and U.S. Air Force guidance regarding aerospace medicine programs.

In pursuit of this goal, the USAFSAM Aerospace Medicine Education Division Chief and the Director of Medical Education will convene this month and next month to evaluate the curricula for the graduate medical education (GME) programs for the upcoming academic year. The AM program has already expanded to allow for scheduling flexibility. The two-year expansion also allows students to engage in rotations and research projects, which is a key advantage for AM students at USAFSAM.

In the next academic year, the program will continue to evolve to fit the needs of the AM students and the USAF mission.
