The first of four Research Altitude Chambers arrived April 25, 2013, at the 711th Human Performance Wing (711 HPW) for use at the U.S. Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine (USAFSAM).

The hypobaric chambers will support the operational mission for USAFSAM, which includes human performance assessment in moderate and high altitude conditions, aircrew equipment development, qualification, and Man Rating, operationally focused aeromedical research, and non-medical engineering test work for aircraft and weapons programs.

Together, the four chambers are valued at over $37 million and allow researchers at USAFSAM maximum flexibility for design and configuration of unique test scenarios under a wide range of environmental conditions.
