The May 16 event featured nine teams with four competitors each, battling in a series of physical and mental challenges to have the quickest time. Teams began with 75 pushups and burpees, followed by a litter carry over roughly a quarter-mile, and test of strength by pushing a 1-ton armored vehicle around 25 yards. The groups then took the weight-loaded litter back down the quarter-mile stretch, where the stopwatch ceased and their final times were recorded. “We are out here to compete, but it’s all in good fun,” said Chief Master Sgt. Justin Walker, 88th Security Forces Squadron senior enlisted leader. “This event is a great way to kick off Police Week. It gets people out and active and allows us to use teamwork to get the mission done.” The 88 SFS “Delta team” wound up winning the Defenders Challenge. It included Staff Sgt. Conrad Cartwright, Staff Sgt. Ross Henderson, Senior Airman Nathan Gabbard and Airman 1st Class Hunter Pryce. “We really just work well together,” Cartwright said. “I think this is just an instance where you have to rely on each other to get the job done, and we were able to that.”
