WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio - Wright-Patterson Air Force Base is having its “Back to school” bash Aug. 6 at Praries Youth Center from 3 to 5 p.m.

The event will take place outside Building 234 on Chapel Lane in the Prairies military housing area.

The 88th Force Support Squadron had scheduled it as an in-person party but is moving forward with a drive-thru only. Anyone with base access is able to take part.

Officials said there have been changes to the original plan due to new COVID-19 restrictions and the installation transitioning to Health Protection Condition Bravo.

“The event has downsized quite a bit, since the COVID uptick,” said Trina Pauley, Youth Programs director. “However, we plan to make sure each child will receive a backpack. It’ll have a pencil bag with two pencils, one pen, an eraser, pencil sharpener and notebook.”

Beavercreek schools begin classes Aug. 12, and Fairborn students return Aug. 19.

“It is important for us to send our children back to school as prepared as they can be,” Pauley said.

Prairies Youth Center is located at 641 Chapel Lane in Riverside.

In a separate event, the USO will be at The Mall at Fairfield Commons from 1-2 p.m. Aug. 7 for its annual Back 2 School Party. Free school supplies will be available for military families, while supplies last, along with games and treats for kids. No registration is required.
