WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio --The woodshop, located in the Consolidated Hobby Complex at Building 1227 in the Kittyhawk area, features craftsmen who can create your order or options for completing it yourself.

Services provided are engraving, sublimation (heat on metal), shadow boxes, flag cases, wooden pens, coin displays, and original custom-built works such as shadow box coffee tables and model planes mounted on high-quality hardwoods, including mahogany, cherry, red oak, walnut, white oak and maple, according to Shaun Hromada, woodshop manager.

“Help is available every day we are open,” he said. “We are here to help any person who comes into our shop.”

Hromada works full time at the woodshop, along with part-time woodworkers Bryan Baldwin, Scott Philback and Chris Barrett, who work with do-it-yourselfers. Glen Monaghan is the engraver.

“Anyone who is active military, civilians and retirees may come in and use the woodshop facilities and tools,” Hromada said. “Do-it-yourselfers can work by themselves or have Baldwin, Philback and Barrett provide hands-on help and advice.

“Most of the in-house custom jobs can be completed in two to three weeks.”

The woodshop fee is $5 per hour. Each type of hardwood is priced per board foot and customers can pay with cash, check or credit card.

“Specialized classes are held every month during the weekdays and weekends,” Hromada said. Wood Turning, Safety Class and Kids Craft are among the sessions offered.

The woodshop is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
