Tech expo goes virtual Published Aug. 11, 2020 By Kevin Gaddie EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- Mission-critical technologies, normally physically displayed here semi-annually, were showcased online at the first Eglin Virtual Tech Expo Aug. 6. Safety concerns brought on by COVID-19 changed the event to a digital collaboration that connected government and industry in a more practical platform. The virtual expo’s intent was to prompt dialogue, information sharing, collaboration and idea generation, which are critical in advancing an organization's mission and objectives, according to Danielle Sanders, National Conference Services, Inc. director of events. Eglin leaders and other patrons received briefings from 18 exhibitors at the Stakeholder Preview, before entering the Virtual Exhibit Hall. There, they viewed emerging technologies in areas such as: radio frequency testing instrumentation, tactical communications, radar, land mobile radio capabilities and drone surveillance. Visitors saw product descriptions, videos, demonstrations, downloadable brochures and accessed networking opportunities in virtual meeting rooms. “Being agile and having the ability to evolve is important in any space, but especially the military,” said Kyle Harris, Daktronics account executive, whose company specializes in high-performance video wall technology. Sanders said the event was a success. “Attendees were able to visit the virtual expo safely and learn about technological advancements,” she said. “Leaders and end users had the opportunity to evaluate the latest technologies and build relationships with industry representatives.”
