Saturday leisure activities abundant in Dayton area

WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio – Events burst out-of-doors with the return of Spring to the Dayton area and on Saturdays in April there are multiple opportunities to take advantage of beautiful weather and exciting activities.

APRIL 6
The Terrific Women in Giving, or TWIG, 45 Moms' Mart held at Butler High School, 600 South Dixie Dr., Vandalia, is a semi-annual sale of gently used clothing, toys and baby items with all proceeds going to the Dayton Children’s Hospital. TWIGs, auxiliaries of the Hospital, are groups of diverse women committed to providing support for a wide range of services at Dayton Children’s through various fundraisers. Admission to the event, which runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., is $1 per adult.

The 76th Annual Antioch Shrine Circus at the Greene County Fairgrounds, 120 Fairground Rd., Xenia, features the traditional sights, sounds and delights of the circus, as well as brand new acts never seen before in Dayton. Admission costs range from $20 for general admission to $50 for VIP Ringside and showtimes are at 10 a.m., 2 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Go to antiochshrinecircus.com for more details.

Les Misérables in Dayton? Yes, Broadway comes to Dayton in the performance of Les Misérables, an unforgettable story of heartbreak, passion and the resilience of the human spirit. The curtain goes up on performances at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m., at the Schuster Center’s Victoria Theater, 1 West 2nd St., Dayton. Ticket prices start at $45.

APRIL 13
Area Scouts can enjoy a specially-priced night of Dayton Dragons baseball at the Fifth Third Field, 220 North Patterson Blvd., Dayton, starting at 7 p.m. Go to www.milb.com/dayton/tickets/scouts for complete ticket information.

Celebrate spring through fun demonstrations, hands-on activities, then build and fly your own kite at April’s Family Day, Kite Tales, at the National Museum of the United States Air Force, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Midwest Ceramic Show at the Butler County Fairgrounds, 1715 Fairgrove Avenue, Hamilton, has hundreds of displays featuring everything a ceramic hobbyist would need to start, or continue, a ceramics tradition. Parking is free and admission is $5.

APRIL 20
The City of Trotwood Easter Egg Hunt at Madison Park, 301 South Broadway, Dayton, is a free event for children and has four areas dedicated to different age groups: walking to age two, ages three to five, ages six to eight and ages nine to 12. The hunt begins at 10 a.m. and includes candy eggs, prize eggs, a special grand prize and a visit with the Easter Bunny. Go to trotwood.org for more.

The lower level Mall at Fairfield Commons, 2727 Fairfield Commons, Beavercreek, is the place to be for free yoga and “Heartfulness Meditation” from 11 a.m. to 12:25 p.m. This free session provides the fundamentals of posture, alignment, breathing techniques and meditation.

Join the Greene County Parks and Trails Trail Sentinels for a moonlight ride along the region's bike trails as they pedal from the Old Town Reserve Park, located at Old Springfield Pike and U.S. Route 68, to Young's Dairy starting at 7 p.m. GCP&T Trail Sentinels are an elite volunteer group who patrol the trails and coordinate several cycling events. All night riders for this free event must be 18 years-old and older, wear a helmet and have lights on their bikes.

APRIL 27
The 2019 Miami Valley March for Babies, sponsored by the March of Dimes, includes breakfast, Kid’s Zone, the Superhero Sprint and much more, and runs from 8 to 11 a.m. at the University of Dayton River Campus, 1700 South Patterson Blvd., Dayton. Help celebrate the 41st Annual Sugar Maple Festival in downtown Bellbrook. Entertainment for the event includes live music, a parade, children’s activities, crafts and food vendors, a 5K run, a dog show and much more. Festivities begin at 10 a.m. and go until 7 p.m.

The final Rockin’ Orchestra series is that of the Fab Four. “Sgt. Pepper's Complete,” with Maestro Neal Gittleman and the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra sharing the stage at the Schuster Center, 1 West 2nd St., Dayton, with the band, Classical Mystery Tour, for a full performance of Sgt.
