Wright-Patterson AFB basketball team prepares for action during 2018-19 season Published Nov. 16, 2018 By Mark C. Lyle 88th Air Base Wing Public Affairs WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio – The Wright-Patterson Air Force Base basketball team is preparing for their 2018-19 season. The team has already participated in three scrimmages and 2 regular season games. The team’s next home game is Nov. 30 against the Dayton Airstrikes a local area semiprofessional basketball team that will take place at 7:30pm at the Wright Field Fitness Center. Last year the team finished with an impressive 31-7 overall record that resulted in ranking fifth in the country according to military team rankings. Byron Brandon, an Air Force retiree and management analyst with the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center’s Presidential and Executive Airlift directorate, will coach the team for the 18th year and has high hopes for this year’s squad. “We're pretty talented and should do as well, if not better than last season,” said Brandon. In the 2017-18 season his team won its end-of-year basketball tournament, the Capital City Classic in Washington D.C. The team plays smaller local colleges and universities within the state of Ohio. Despite Brandon’s player’s being a little older than their college competition, his teams have historically matched up well with their size and speed. The Air Force maintains intramural sports programs on its bases to promote morale, welfare and recreation within the ranks of its Air Force communities. Players that are exceptional on the intramural teams often end up playing for their respective base teams. The Wright-Patterson basketball team plays a 30-game schedule with home games played at the Wright Field Fitness Center.
