WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio – The Air Force joined with the Department of Veteran Affairs in 2017 and put into action the first Women’s Health Transition Pilot Program.

Wright- Patterson was one of six bases selected to implement this program.

“We are fortunate to have been selected as one of the bases to implement this pilot program, said Shonte Gonzalez, Community Readiness Specialist. “There is a large population of women veterans in the surrounding area of Wright-Patterson and our goal is to reach out to as many woman service members as possible”.

The course is designed specifically to provide a female perspective to active-duty, reserve and guard servicewomen who plan to transition to civilian or Reserve/Guard status. The woman Veteran-led training covers topics such as: The transformed culture of the VA, Range of women’s health and mental health care services available, Eligibility for and enrollment in VA health care, Expectations for women to proactively seek health care services post separation and available transition support services.

“This course provides informative, relevant Veterans health enrollment information, said Gonzalez. “It describes in depth, in a timely manner, the services offered related to women’s health”.

Attendance is encouraged from active-duty Servicewomen who plan to transition to Civilian or Reserve/National Guard Status within the next calendar year. Dress is civilian casual.
