WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio- Wright-Patterson Air Force Base is recognizing National Disability Employment Awareness Month this October.

NDEAM began as an effort to educate Americans about disability and employment in 1945 as “National Employ the Physically Handicapped Week.” The word “physically” was removed in 1962 to acknowledge all Americans with disabilities. October officially became National Disability Employment Awareness Month in 1988, according to Margaret Wood, contributor to the Library of Congress.

Today, NDEAM helps to raise and maintain awareness of the needs as well as the contributions of all individuals with a disability and reflects the commitment to a diverse and competitive labor force.

Wright-Patterson AFB will be holding seminars as well as screenings to recognize NDEAM throughout the month of October. All seminars and screenings will be held in the multi-purpose room in Building 2, Area A.
