WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio – Formerly known as the base library, the Information Learning Center (ILC) has many professional development services and resources available to the base populous.

The mission of the ILC is to connect the customer base and the Wright-Patterson community with available E-Learning, Distance Learning, and limited hard copy capabilities and resources.

"We have a customer-oriented staff that helps patrons with their research projects providing excellent customer service and offers numerous reference materials," said Tammy Sutphin, the Education Resources Technician at the learning center.

The center, once a traditional library, is now a digital library with improved network connection. It houses a computer lab with 20 computers, and is available for use to do online training. In addition, the lab has computer ports and power adapters for laptops and tablets. The computers are connected by common assess card (CAC) and enabled with internet and WiFi.

There are self-help computer stations for use in the customer service area. The computers are on an open network for wireless and wired connections, making it very user-friendly. Also in the customer service area there are couches and chairs available for use. Tables are set-up and available in areas for study groups, as well as for quiet study.

In addition to the lab and self-help stations, there is a conference room available for use. The spacious room holds up to 65 people or sectioned off to accommodate smaller groups. To reserve the conference room, email 88FSS.FSDL.Workflow@ us.af.mil.

"There are two types of learning programs at any ILC, a physical learning program and a virtual learning program," said Sutphin.

"The virtual program is completely digital and done strictly on-line, with network connections via the Air Force Portal," said Sutphin. "This is a wonderful service, especially because it can be accessed at any Air Force base or while on deployment overseas."

The ILC also has books, CDs, DVDs, and study guides available for check out, in addition to having skilled employees on hand to help with any type of services offered.

All of the e-resources are listed and available on the home page of the AF Portal under the library> resources>tab.

There are also educational courses available online, such as Mango Languages and the Joint Language University which offer foreign language learning technology. The material is accessible at the ILC or checked out and used at home.

The learning center has a Professional Reading Program with books available from the Air Force Chief of Staff reading list, created by General Ronald Fogleman in 1996, to develop a common frame of reference among Air Force members. Each Chief of Staff since has continued the program.
