Achieving training objectives intent of free classes July 23-27

WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio – Registration for the third Focus Week of 2018, scheduled for July 23-27 at the 88th Air Base Wing, will continue from now until the day before each course is held. 

The July Focus Week is focused on performance improvement for both the individual and the organization. Select classes continue to be offered through a training exchange partnership with Sinclair Community College as a part of the Air Force Community Partnership Initiative.

SCC course offerings, with seating limited to 30 each, will include:

■ Communication that Connects: Nearly every core management function within an organization is built upon effective interpersonal communication skills. Leaders who communicate effectively are able to leverage their ability to connect with others, enhancing their productivity and the productivity of their teams.

■ Effective Strategies to Improve Your Critical and Strategic Thinking Skills: Leaders, as well as employees, need to assess problems, gather and analyze data, make decisions and implement them well.

■ Emotional and Social Intelligence: Emotional and social intelligence is the capability to recognize our own feelings and those of others, and to manage emotions effectively in ourselves and our relationships even in challenging situations.

New classes being held on base are:

■ Logistics Careers: This presentation shares the journey of a leader in the logistics community from their start to their current leadership position as well as what it took to get there and what it takes to begin a career in the logistics community.

■ The Hiring Process from Vacancy to New Employee: This course is designed to provide supervisors of civilian positions an overview of the civilian hiring process beginning with the initial identification of a vacancy through the recruitment and onboarding process.

Other course offerings this Focus Week:

■ 8-Step Problem Solving: This workshop provides military members and civilian personnel with a basic knowledge of the 8-Step Problem Solving Process, which is becoming the standard methodology for addressing problems and opportunities for improvement.

■ Air Force 101: The class will begin with a basic history of the flying mission and walk through significant events along with technological achievements that have molded yesterday’s USAF mission into the mission of today.

■ Aligning Performance with Organizational Goals: This two-hour, in-class course identifies the importance of individual and team performance roles in meeting/exceeding organizational goals and vision for mission accomplishments.

■ Building a Circle of Safety: A great leader is someone who creates an environment that makes their employees feel safe and secure. Building a Circle of Safety naturally allows people to work together to achieve incredible results.

■ Building a Culture of Trust: You will learn to improve communication and productivity by increasing ability to develop, restore and extend trust in your key relationships.

■ Colors Personality: The Colors Personality course is about discovering your values, understanding how you can get along better with others and have a clearer understanding of a person’s approach and preference in their work and personal life.

■ EIM/SharePoint Site Owners Training: This one-day course teaches how to do business as a site owner to include: create and manage sites; create and manager libraries; item level permissions; collaboration and lists; site design; and site owner settings and resources.

■ Federal Resume Writing: The federal resume class covers two parts, the first goes over the new changes to the process and how it impacts your resume. The second part covers how to create an effective resume that gets results.

■ Writing for Professional Growth: This course provides assistance to employees under the AcqDemo and DPMAP pay plans to write better self-assessment performance statements.

■ Coaching Your Employees for Developmental Success: This two-hour class will show you how to work with your employees to develop an Individual Development Plan establishing their short- and long-term developmental goals as well as their institutional and functional goals using simple tools already available to you.

The Air Force Life Cycle Management Center Summer Focus Week sessions will take place July 23-27.

Registration is now available for most courses via the Acquisition Now Continuous Learning (CL) website, however additional course offerings may become available as Focus Week approaches.
