Trap, skeet, archery available at WPAFB Shooting facility Published May 3, 2017 By W. Eugene Barnett, Jr. 88th Air Base Wing Public Affairs WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio -- For anyone who enjoys archery, trap or skeet shooting, the Rod & Gun Club located at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base is the place to go. Dale Schock is the gun club manager at the Rod and Gun Club and has many years of experience with shotguns to offer advice. “We provide community service, for shotgun club members,” Schock said. “Members and non-members are allowed to shoot year round. This shooting range is for shotguns and archery.” The club is open for use to all military and civilian government workers, government contractors at Wright-Patterson AFB, Amateur Trapshooting Association, and the National Skeet Shooting Association members. “Four dollars pays for one round which includes 25 clay targets,” said Schock. “An important benefit for joining club members is the ability to purchase any type of gun or archery equipment out of the club’s catalogs for only 15 percent over wholesale and they do not pay sales tax. This benefit applies to weapons, but also any gun or archery accessories, which can save the members hundreds of dollars.” Located just outside of Area A, through Gate 16A, Building 892, the Rod and Gun Club is open Monday & Tuesday 11 a.m. - 6 p.m., Wednesday 10 a.m. - 8 p.m., Saturday-Sunday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and closed Thursday and Friday. It’s not too late to join the Spring Trap League that started late March and goes to May 28. “Airmen Day is a team building exercise. Ten to 30 come out to shoot in groups of five. They take a half day off from work, bring their lunch and drinks and use the patio,” said Schock. The club offers five trap and five skeet fields. “The Archery range is a six lane course west of the skeet and trap. Ten yards to 40 yards shooting distance,” Schock said. “It too, is open all year round.” For additional information, email the Rod and Gun Club at Dale.Schock@us.af.mil or call 257-3935.
