Employees and visitors who commute to and from Area B via Gate 19B may be affected by an upcoming construction project. Greene County officials have scheduled a project along National Road - from Reese Drive (road leading to Gate 19B) to Colonel Glenn Highway.

During construction, National Road's southbound lane will be closed. Travelers will not be able to turn right when exiting 19B but must follow detour signs to Colonel Glenn. Commuters will be able to enter the gate by turning left when travelling northbound on National Road or by turning right when heading southbound on National Road.

The goal of the construction project is to widen the road and create a middle turn lane for individuals turning left to enter 19B.

Nick Smith, assistant city engineer for the City of Beavercreek, said the project is a result of a study that showed it would be safer and more convenient for base commuters to have a middle turning lane on the intersection of Reese Drive and National Road.

Smith also said that although the project may cause delays, travelers will be satisfied with the end results.

"During construction there is probably going to be a few hiccups," Smith said. "But overall everyone is going to be happy with the work."

Officials said the projected completion date is April 24.
