Generals to address AFA Conference

The Air Force Materiel Command commander and surgeon general of the Air Force are among confirmed speakers at the 2007 Air Force Assocation State Aerospace Conference, Convention and Aerospace Workshop April 20-21 at the Hope Hotel and Conference Center here.

Gen. Bruce Carlson will open the first day of the conference with an update on Air Force and AFMC operations around the globe at 11 a.m., followed by Dr. (Lt. Gen.) James Roudebush at noon, who will provide luncheon remarks on current medical missions, as well as the medical expansion at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.

The April 20 agenda is focused on Air Force, industry and base realignment and closure issues with other invited speakers, including U.S. Congressman Mike Turner, member of the House Armed Services Committee; Ohio Sen. Steve Austria; Ohio Rep. Kevin DeWine; retired Maj. Gen. Lou Ferraro from the Dayton Development Coalition; Joe Sutter, AFA vice chairman of the board for field operations.

Part of the April 20 program also will include a mid-afternoon panel discussion with military, civilian, contractor and elected officials on the future of the aerospace industry in Ohio and across the United States. Vince Russo, retired Senior Executive Service members and former Aeronautical Systems Center executive director, will be the panel moderator for the discussion.

The April 21 agenda concentrates on AFA State Convention meetings along with a concurrent aerospace education workshop for educators across Ohio. Col. Colleen Ryan, 88th Air Base Wing commander will provide opening remarks at 9:30 a.m., followed by a presentation by Kathy Schweinfurth, Wright-Patterson AFB Education Outreach Office executive director. A joint session lunch with remarks by Amanda Wright Lane, grand niece of Orville and Wilbur Wright, will officially close the two-day event.
