Newburgh, N.Y. -- Senior Master Sgt. Dennis Pitcher briefs Gen. Ellen M. Pawlikowski, Air Force Materiel Command commander, and New York Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul on the C-5M interior refurbishment mission Oct. 5 at Stewart Air National Guard Base, N.Y. Airmen from the 105th Airlift Wing at Stewart spend approximately 40 days repainting aircraft interior, adding a new, non-skid cargo deck, replacing cargo compartment and flight deck insulation, replacing 2,400 decals and other aesthetic upgrades. The work at Stewart represents the final step in the C-5M conversion, which includes glass cockpit, new engines and reliability and performance enhancements to extend the life and capabilities of the airlifter.
