WPAFB Transition Assistance Program

The Transition Assistance Program (TAP) offers separating or retiring personnel an individual transition plan to ease re-entry into civilian life. Consider beginning transition planning at least 18-24 months prior to retirement or separation.  M&FRC provides initial counseling, TAP workshops and pre-separation counseling. TAP is designed to provide necessary tools to effectively transition from the military to the civilian community. The initial counseling, pre-separation, and TAP Workshop are mandatory briefings.  All TAP mandates are documented on the (DD Form 2648) checklist. The DD Form 2648 checklist is a mandatory TAP requirement for all separating/retiring service members and must be accomplished 365 days no later than 90 days prior to the individual's separation/retirement to facilitate out-processing.

In addition, based on Vow to Hire Heroes Act, TAP has changed to a 3-day mandatory and a 2-day optional attendance program with mandatory requirements. It is highly recommended that the initial counseling, pre-separation counseling, and TAP be accomplished one year prior to retirement and/or separation.

Mandatory initial counseling, pre-separation counseling, capstone, and TAP are four separate requirements. Members attending TAP must sign up for initial counseling first and then the pre-separation briefing prior to attending the TAP workshop.  The capstone is the last mandatory requirement.  The pre-separation briefing occurs on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays at 0900. The TAP workshops offered twice a month begins at 0800.  Depending on circumstances, members may receive both the initial counseling and pre-separation counseling on a walk-in basis prior to attending TAP. Members must complete the initial counseling and pre-separation counseling before attending the TAP workshop.
