Wright-Patterson Medical Center Unveils New MRI: A Leap Forward in Patient Care

The 88th Medical Group is proud to announce a significant upgrade to its diagnostic capabilities with the installation of a new Siemens MAGNETOM Lumina 3T MRI machine. This state-of-the-art system represents a major investment in patient health, promising clearer diagnoses, enhanced comfort, and faster results for the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base community.

What Makes the MAGNETOM Lumina 3T So Advanced?

At its core, the "3T" in the machine's name refers to its powerful magnetic field, which enables exceptionally high-resolution imaging. This means our medical team can capture detailed pictures of organs, bones, and soft tissues, helping to detect even subtle abnormalities that might be missed on older systems.

Beyond its power, the Lumina 3T is packed with intelligent features designed to improve every aspect of the MRI experience:

Smarter, More Precise Scans: Unique BioMatrix Technology allows the MRI to adapt to each patient's individual body and movements. This "smart" approach ensures consistent, high-quality images every time, reducing the need for repeat scans and providing more reliable diagnostic information. Our technicians are also guided by myExam Companion, an artificial intelligence system that optimizes each scan for consistent, high-quality results.

Faster Results: Advanced features like Tim 4G and Turbo Suite Essential significantly reduce scan times. This means patients spend less time in the scanner and healthcare providers receive results more quickly, accelerating treatment planning.

Specialized Imaging: The system includes a comprehensive range of specialized "smart" coils, custom-designed for different body parts – from the brain and spine to shoulders, knees, hands, and feet; ensuring optimal imaging for every anatomical region.

Designed with Patient Comfort in Mind: Recognizing that MRI scans can sometimes be daunting, the MAGNETOM Lumina 3T prioritizes patient comfort.

It features a wider and shorter bore design, creating a more open and less confined feeling, which is particularly beneficial for those who experience anxiety or claustrophobia. Additionally, its innovative Quiet Suite technology dramatically reduces the loud noises typically associated with MRI scans, making the experience much more peaceful. The BioMatrix Dockable Table can also be lowered close to the floor, making it easier for patients with mobility challenges, children, or those in wheelchairs to get on and off.

Bone Densitometry (DEXA): A quick, non-invasive scan used to measure bone mineral density, crucial for diagnosing osteoporosis and assessing fracture risk.
