The Cincinnati Bengals rookies recently visited Wright-Patterson Air Force Base on May 15, connecting with service members and experiencing the mission firsthand.

Col. Marrietta Sanders, 88th Mission Support Group commander, and Chief Master Sgt. Michael Sierra, 88th Mission Support Group command chief, welcomed the team on behalf of the installation, informing them of the valuable missions here at Wright-Patt.

“You are visiting one of the most strategically important installations of the United States Air Force,” Sierra said. “And just like the Bengals’ organization, the United States Air Force is a team.”

Bengals rookies and Airmen and Guardians from across the installation shared lunch and exchanged stories of their service and careers at the Wright-Patt Community Center.

“We’re very grateful that the team was able to come out here,” 1st Lt. Sarah Packard, with the Air Force Materiel Command public affairs, said. “They were very interested in learning about what we do here at Wright-Patt. It was just a great opportunity to share what we do and also to interact with all the players.”

The visit continued with the 88th Security Forces Squadron Military Working Dog demonstration, showcasing their skills and briefing the players on MWD’s roles in the Air Force. MWD Lux, a K-9 assigned to the 88 SFS, demonstrated his training by apprehending multiple players – a moment they eagerly awaited.

The day wrapped up with a visit to the 88th Security Forces Squadron and gained insight into the life of a Security Forces defender. The players also had an opportunity to ask questions about their experiences of being a military service member.

Colbie Young, rookie wide receiver for the Bengals, reflected on the visit, connecting the dedication of Airmen and Guardians to his own journey in football.

“I met with a great group of men and women who specialize in the medical field, and they gave me rundowns of just how much time and training they put into perfecting their craft," said Young. “It relates to football, where we put our time and training in to perfecting ours.”

Visits like this demonstrate Wright-Patterson’s commitment to strengthening the relationship with community partners like the Bengals. This unique visit created an opportunity for the Bengals to learn more about Wright-Patt, the Air Force, and its Airmen and Guardians.
