Air Force officials here will unveil new lightweight running shorts this month in time for the Air Force Marathon Sept. 19 here.

The new shorts -- available at the AAFES Wright-Patterson Military Clothing Sales Store, or MCSS -- feature a durable, quick-drying nylon shell with polyester brief for moisture management, a 4.5" inseam, drawstring waist, and oversized inside back key pocket. They are the same shade of blue as the previous Physical Training Uniform shorts, without the Air Force emblem or reflective material. Sizes offered will be XS to XXL and they are authorized for wear interchangeably with the current PTU shorts.

The Air Force responded to feedback from the field to develop a short that was made just for running, and teamed up with New Balance to develop a garment that meets the needs of Airmen. Currently, 4,000 of these running shorts are being shipped to Wright-Patterson AFB for unveiling before the AF Marathon.

Sale of these shorts is open to all Airmen, and available only at AAFES starting this Friday. Cost of the new short is $16.95, and proceeds from sales supportsĀ Morale, Welfare, and Recreation. The AAFES MCSS store will be open regular hours Friday from 9 am to 5:30 pm.

"You can't miss our display when you enter the store," said Jim Tagg, shift manager, AAFES MCSS. "We are excited to be chosen by the Air Force to premier this great new item."

Although the short is premiering at Wright-Patterson, it will be available Air Force-wide by mid September.
