WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio -- Air Force Sergeants Association, Kittyhawk Chapter 751, organized a “Summerfest” event at the nursing home on the Dayton Veterans Affairs campus, June 3, 2023. The AFSA Chapter’s VA Voluntary Service representative Judy Garcia planned the event and gathered over twenty volunteers from across the base.  The Air and Space Forces Association, Wright Memorial Chapter 212, also supported the event.

This was a return to the Dayton VA after a three-year hiatus during the pandemic.  The Veterans were overjoyed to see AFSA return for the traditional annual event and socialized among themselves and with the volunteers. Many of the Veterans participated in carnival games, stirring up some competitive fun to win gold, silver, and bronze medals. A DJ was also on hand to play requests from the Veterans and the room was filled with the sounds of the 60’s and 70’s. Prizes were also raffled off.

Some volunteers visited Veterans in their rooms.  After a few minutes, the bonds between military members were established and comparisons of military life experiences were a common topic.

Many volunteers commented that they looked forward to being involved with future AFSA visits at the Dayton VA.

AFSA Chapter 751 meets the first Tuesday of the month, at 11:30 a.m., at the USO (2221 Birch St, building 1222).  However, in July the meeting will take place on July 11 due to Independence Day holiday.  More information can be obtained by email at AFSA751@yahoo.com.
