HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. – Air Force Life Cycle Management Center officials announced the names of the financial management awards winners during a ceremony at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio Sept. 4.

The awards ceremony, held via VTC at seven operating locations, including Hanscom Air Force Base, Mass., recognized AFLCMC teams and individuals who demonstrated excellence through financial management programs. This year’s theme was “Financing the Freedoms of Tomorrow.”

“I believe this theme echoes the Air Force call to be more agile and rapid today, in order to be more than ready when our warfighter calls tomorrow,” said Greg Leingang, chief of Comptroller Plans and Programs Division for AFLCMC, who emceed the overall event.

Before presenting the awards, Kathy Sowers, AFLCMC Financial Management and Comptroller director, highlighted the caliber of personnel throughout the center.

“I’m continuously impressed with your dedication, professionalism and support that I either personally observe or hear about from your PEOs [program executive officers], program managers and others,” she said.

Presenting at Hanscom was Dan Harvey, chief of the Financial Management Resource Division for the Financial Management Directorate at Hanscom.

Lt. Col. Michael Giacomazzi, program control chief for Family of Advanced Beyond Line-of-Sight Terminals Division, received the Senior-Level Financial Manager Acquisition Category I/II Program Award.

“This award is recognition of the team behind me who I work with on a day-to-day basis,” he said.

Another Hanscom winner, Laura Viggiano, a financial specialist for the Digital Financial Management Branch, appreciated the recognition.

“It’s humbling to be recognized for your hard work,” she said.

Viggiano received the Junior-Level Financial Management Acquisition Category I/II Program Award.

“It’s definitely a very competitive environment, so to come out on top of so many well-respected individuals is humbling,” said Adam Ferrara, Battlefield Airborne Communications Node budget chief, who received the award for Senior Staff or Operating Location Analyst of the Year.

Giacomazzi spoke about mentoring the junior military and civilian financial managers.

“I want to keep giving back to the FM community through developing the CGO [company grade officer] workforce,” he said. “I want to build off my experiences to shape their careers and have them reach far greater heights than me.”

Other award winners include:

Katie Jeffrey, cost analyst in the Digital Financial Management Branch, who received the Mid-Level Cost Acquisition Category I/II Program Award.
