WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio -- Hundreds of interns and summer hires working across Wright-Patterson Air Force Base are invited to be honored July 26 from 10:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the 2nd annual Interns and 2nd Lieutenants Picnic to be held at Bass Lake.

The work of hundreds of young people assigned to Air Force Materiel Command, Air Force Life Cycle Management Center, the Air Force Research Laboratory, the National Air and Space Intelligence Center and other organizations will be celebrated with remarks by civilian and military senior leadership at 11:30 a.m., a picnic lunch and an afternoon of activities and fellowship.

Personnel from the Air Force Metrology and Calibration Program, part of the Air Force Civil Engineer Center, AFMC, at the former Newark AFB in Heath, Ohio, also have been invited.

Activities will range from volleyball, relay races and musical chairs to board and carnival games, water balloons and a dunk tank featuring several department chiefs and program leaders. Deejay “Edge” will spin tunes.

But the picnic offers more than opportunities for fun, its organizers say.

“The point of the event is to get to know the people you will be working with in the cross-functional areas,” said Justin Cerrato. “This year we have added the 2nd lieutenants because we work with the military on a day-to-day basis. We wanted to invite them so we can all network.”
