Tri-Service effort leverages synthetic biology expertise to address future warfighter needs
Members of the Air Force, Army and Navy Research Laboratories visit the Air Force Research Laboratory’s Materials and Manufacturing Directorate to learn of the unique capabilities and facilities available to support research efforts in synthetic biology. The tri- service Applied Research for the Advancement of Science and Technology Priorities Program on Synthetic Biology for Military Environments unites researchers from each of the service laboratories in an effort to create the organic capabilities and infrastructure within the DoD for synthetic biology for future defense technology. One of the most notable, recent projects by the Flexible Materials and Processes team is the transition of 3-D printed conformal antennas to enable Link-16 radio communication on the MQ-9 reaper platform.
