Air National Guard Airmen support AFRL radar project

Staff Sgt. Tony Velado stands before a 100' bi-static radar tower May 20, 2011 at Springfield Air National Guard Base, Ohio. Air National Guard Airmen from engineering installation squadrons in six states helped construct four towers and install radar systems to provide the Air Force Research Laboratory at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base with the capability to conduct advanced sensors research. BRAC 2005 decisions directed relocation of the research radars to Wright-Patterson from Rome, N.Y. Sergeant Velado briefly took a break during construction to become Ohio's middleweight Brazilian Jiu-jitsu champion. He is with the 243rd Engineering Installation Squadron, based in South Portland, Maine. (U.S. Air Force photo/Derek Kaufman)
