WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio -- Eight members from the Minnick family will be running in this year's 18th Annual USAF Marathon race. The family consists of 4 men and 4 women with an average age of 24.75 years old.

Daniel Minnick who is one of the oldest family members registered for the race is considered the ring leader for this family affair.

"Two spouses and the rest are brothers and sisters will be in the race," said Dan. "Our bib numbers will range from 2633 to 2641. We have family coming from 5 different states; Kentucky, West Virginia, Virginia, Georgia and Minnesota."

'Our uncle was scheduled to run will not, which would have put us at nine Minnick members," said Dan.  "He will be there for moral support."

Although the age gap for some family members is decades apart, Dan stated the family is well trained for the 26.2 mile race.

"The age range is from 17 to 50 years old," said Dan. "We'll run as fast as the slowest runner and try and stay together, but if someone takes off that's fine. We'll be somewhere in the 5 plus hour mark when we cross the finish line."

Several family members have raced in marathons before. This was not Dan's first either.

"I ran the USAF Marathon in 2012 with my younger sister and had a good time," said Dan.

The family is going to try and meet at the Wright State University Nutter Center at the same time on Friday, the day before the race, to pick-up their bibs during the Sports & Fitness Expo.

"If a family member is late, I'll pick it up for them using the authorization form to pick up bibs required by the marathon office," said Dan. "Some have a long distance to travel."

Because of the number of family coming, the Minnick's decided to rent a house in the local area.

"We'll be here the whole weekend" said Dan. "The family plans to be at the house on Friday to enjoy a big pasta dinner that evening to get ready for the race."

The USAF Marathon is scheduled for Saturday, September 20, 2014. The marathon starts and finishes on the grounds of the National Museum of the United States Air Force. The start time is 7:25 a.m., for the Wheeled Division Race and 7:30 a.m., for the Full Marathon and 10K race. The Half Marathon starts at 8:30 a.m.
